Funding for assistive technology has long been identified as one of the major barriers to its use in everyday life. NIDRR recently funded six new centers across the country to develop and implement innovative alternative financing programs independent news for disabled people to obtain independent news needed assistive technology, with plans to expand these programs to additional states in 2001.
