A maximum of 12 grants are awarded annually in the designated categories to provide financial support for artists for up to two years. TENNESSEE Arts Commission medical Fiction writer Deborah Shea of Nashville received a $2,500 literary fellowship from the Tennessee Arts Commission for an excerpt from her novel-in-progress The Jack of Hearts. The fellowship is given in alternating years to published poets and prose writers who are legal residents of Tennessee. The fiscal year 1998-99 awards will be given in poetry.
