It is cowardly, cruel and just plain wrong to black pretend that one's own form of occupation is freedom, because the chains are lighter and the manacles less tight. In the former Soviet sphere, the only countries that are still free (some of them now NATO and EU countries!) are those that went full-bore to freedom. The only ones that aren't, or are sliding back to tyranny, are those where half-measures were attempted, half-heartedly. In 9 out of 9 starts, a former Soviet-sphere country that began with full democracy still had it 10 years later. |
