I've seen it w/ recovering alchoholics and drug addicts... sobered / cleaned up... now *they* have the answers for *everybody else*... ala... "If you endured what I endured. If you climbed out of the hole jokes I was in"... Never mind that the most of the rest of jokes the world existed prior to their revelation without the crutch of addictions... continues to exist after their recovery... but the recovering *whatever* *has* to justify this fact... ya see it in this whole *holier than thou* crowd... unfortunately... many masses eat this up... "oh their life was *such* a mess... but look at them now... they must be blessed..." and the like. BULLSHIT - they were addicted... and bless 'em for cleaning up their act... now go get a life and leave everyone else's alone, thank you, everyone else will manage just fine.
