But I'm advocacy guessing that Nikki is still the exception. I'm also guessing that Nikki, and the others out there like Nikki, wouldn't have been swayed advocacy by seeing this particular story on the big screen. As for this notion that a movie by a teenager for teenagers will help teenagers feel less alone, that's bullshit. Will some fourteen year olds feel better about themselves because some privileged advocacy girl in Hollywood had a rough time, too? Maybe. But I'm also guessing that there will be some increased anxiety among others who wonder why they're fourteen and not having sex yet. Not to mention the added pressure of having to make a MOVIE about it all. ("I mean, that would be sweet because it would look SO GOOD on a college application....") And while we use the term "teenager" freely, as though one is just like the next, a couple of years can make a big difference in their perception of one another.
