* * music * ANOTHER columnist who shares this space once a month, Antonio Montalvan, wrote a column music last May 12 attacking the proponents of HB 4110 and essentially echoing all the arguments raised by religious leaders and representatives of religious organizations in various hearings on the bill. Dr. Junice Melgar, executive director of Likhaan or Linangan ng Kababaihan, a non-government organization which provides health services for women in impoverished communities, writes to refute specific points, what she calls Montalvan's "discordant facts," in his column. For one, music writes Melgar, "the Reproductive Health Care bill's section on adolescent health upholds young people's right to health information and care. It does not propose that adolescents must be autonomous of their parents." Opponents of HB 4110 urge the public to "read between the lines" when citing the "frightening" possibility of empowered young people having unbridled sex while their disempowered parents look on helplessly.
