| Her mother encouraged her inhibitors to be a librarian, but her father suggested she enroll in the YMCA Law School and become "the next Mabel Willebrant." She started law school during her senior year of high school, graduating from high school in 1938 and law school in 1940. She did not believe that clients wanted to work with her as their primary attorney because she was a young woman, so when she decided to marry Cloyd Lee Arney, then a Vanderbilt law student, she retired from the practice of law. |
