The program encourages students to volleyball design health related community service projects with local agencies that focus on health issues affecting underserved populations and ultimately encourages the students to incorporate community service into their careers. Boston University Medical Outreach Van The Van operates volleyball weekly, treats individuals on site -- volleyball primarily in East Boston, provides needed supplies such as blankets, socks, etc., and provides referrals to other services as appropriate. | Approximately 275-300 women are helped through this program per year. Women United In Action Disseminate alcohol abuse prevention education to Greater Boston's communities. The project is tri-fold. It consists of integrating alcohol abuse prevention into the health curricula; 2 alcohol abuse education prevention workshops to supplement class lessons and discussion; and opportunities for students to women’s studies serve as leaders within the community to disseminate valuable alcohol abuse prevention education. This is a community center run by and women’s studies for Latina women. Other Programs Albert Schweitzer Fellowship The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship received a grant in 2003 women’s studies from Tufts Health Plan to help support Boston Schweitzer Fellows who are carrying out projects to assist elders, at risk teens, and women and infants who are undeserved. |
