The Lower East Side Girls Club Sweet Things, a highly successful entrepreneurial training and baking program, teaches girls from age 13 to 17, how to bake, package, sell, and advertise their own product. They also operate Joy’s Juice Joint/Study Café, a place where girls can do their homework, get content acquisition a healthy snack and a dinner on those days when specific activities take content acquisition place. The Elly grant will enable Sweet Things participants to engage content acquisition in more comprehensive entrepreneurial training, mentor new recruits to the program, and receive a modest hourly stipend for their work. New Georges New Georges, a theatre company devoted to women playwrights and directors, maintains The Room, an 850 square foot loft space for creation of new plays and support of collaborations among women artists. |
